I had the gratifying opportunity to enroll in the virtual plastic surgery rotation with Dr Lin. In addition to the elaborate online curriculum, I felt fortunate to have daily protected time with a plastic surgery program director which is not common on regular rotations. This has provided me with valuable knowledge, mentorship, and insight. Dr Lin is friendly, engaging, and eager to teach. He was prompt in addressing our concerns whether in session or through email. After finishing the rotation, he was keen on following through and staying connected. The online teaching platform is comprehensive, organized, and user friendly. During the online sessions, Dr Lin was thorough, supportive, and understanding. He encouraged questions, simplified complicated concepts, and made sure we understood the material. I enjoyed his enthusiasm which made the experience more pleasant and uplifting. I feel much more confident to engage in plastic surgery discussions and research from the knowledge I gained. Although there is no hands-on experience, Dr Lin goes over several important, and frankly fascinating surgical procedures with a step-by-step explanation. The ability to pause and inquire about any step in the surgery is not always possible during live procedures due to the emergent nature of surgeries. However, with the online rotation, I did not have this hesitancy where I wanted to ask questions but did not want to disturb the surgeon’s attention as he operates on a patient. You also have access to additional surgery recordings. I highly recommend this rotation to anyone who wants to learn more about plastic surgery. Moreover, I believe this rotation can serve as a preparatory or complimentary tool for in-person rotations, research fellowships, or residency training in plastic surgery.

For years I’ve struggled with breathing due to my deviated septum and I was insecure with how my nose looked from the side. I would have a difficult time falling to sleep due to not being able to breathe through my nose and I hated having my picture taken especially on my ‘bad’ side. If I had known Dr. Lin was going to be my surgeon , I would have done my rhinoplasty and septoplasty a long time ago. I couldn’t be happier with the results!!! I feel and look great. From day one, Dr. Lin answered all my questions and concerns with his comprehensive knowledge and expertise. He was compassionate, thorough and never once did I feel unprepared or wondering what to expect . I highly recommend Dr. Lin , don’t wait another minute… you want be disappointed.

It has been an amazing journey to do observership under Dr. Lin. Dr. Lin's classes push us to the limit to learn more and understand more plastic surgery concepts. He has provided an extensive platform to learn in the form of a Deckermed platform, which was very useful for getting the plastic surgery concepts. The Quizzes were very challenging and prompted us to read the articles again and again. His live classes were in detail, from embryology to the latest concepts like targeted muscle reinnervation on which he is doing a lot of research. I learned a lot and the colleagues who attended classes with me were amazing. Dr. Lin also has great communication and interpersonal skills. He spoke and explained the concepts well and was available for any clarifications or questions. I highly recommend this to anyone who is willing to learn and build connections.

I recently enjoyed the wonderful months working with Dr. Lin on both a research rotation and a virtual clinical rotation separately in plastic surgery field. Virtual Clinical Rotation: I am really grateful to Dr. Lin. Through this program, I got the chance to work with a renowned physician who is on the Mt Rushmore of plastic surgeons, learn from him, get his direction, increase my understanding of the specialty, and, most importantly, discover techniques that I had never heard of or seen before. This program provided a thorough explanation of what plastic and reconstructive surgery entails. I believe I have acquired an incredible quality of knowledge throughout my four-week rotation, and I've enjoyed every moment of it. Dr. Lin addressed all of our questions in a straightforward, comprehensive manner, made study interactive asking questions and listened to what we stated. I can say that he has created a superb course when it comes to instructing both novice and seasoned students. I am motivated to learn more about this fascinating profession after viewing a variety of cutting-edge procedures and realizing that there is no physical restriction that a qualified and highly skilled plastic surgeon cannot cure. My expectations were exceeded, I dare say. Research Rotation: For a novice like me, it was really informative and a fantastic place to begin my research work under the great mentorship of Dr Lin. During course I had multiple ideas which were unfortunately taken by other research fellows I was feeling desolate regarding that BUT Dr. Lin cheered me up by insisting on other ideas, ways and also, we laughed about it by doing that it relaxed my mind immensely for which I am again grateful to him. This was a highlight for me apart from that this course had provided enough materials to know about systematic review, which is the highest form of evidence. In order to advance our research endeavor, he connected with other senior research fellows at the completion and committed to stay in touch. I do strongly encourage these courses to everyone interested in research, not simply just in the field of plastic surgery.

Dr. Lin is not only an excellent surgeon but also an exceptional educator. His enthusiasm for the success of his students is very encouraging. He always ensured we had all the resources needed to succeed and answer any questions, along with explaining his rationale in a relatable way to his students. I highly encourage anybody who can work with him to do so, regardless of their medical specialty choice.

Dr Lin is one of the most humble, most knowledgeable, most well-known person in plastic surgery. I had a opportunity to work with him in research and he seems extremely well adjusted well knowledgeable all-rounder was extremely kind hearted very calm knows how to treat every patient and overall very good human being.

Virtual Plastic Surgery with Dr. Samuel Lin was amazing. This Plastic Surgeon is a great instructor and mentor for medical students He has the ability to make complicated concepts easy to understand. He also has authored several books and research publications. I highly recommend Dr. Samuel Lin to teach and mentor medical students and medical graduates. He's by far one of the best. Excellent virtual research experience. Dr Lin will show you important steps on how to perform Systematic Review, register research on PROSPERO website and he will link estudents with research fellow who will help with your current research. I recommend this rotation 100% for those interested in learning how to do research.

With a strong family history of breast cancer, I did not have to think long about what action to take when I was told that changes in regular diagnostic testing gave me a 2 in 3 chance of developing breast cancer in five years. Given the option of more frequent testing and medications and reassurance that “ we would be on top of things”, I opted to be aggressive and had a bilateral mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction. The reconstruction, however, did not go well - this is where Dr Lin made all of the difference in my battle against breast cancer. I had nearly resolved myself to accepting that my unhappiness with my appearance after my mastectomies and implant surgery was a price I paid to virtually remove my breast cancer risk. I saw reviews for Dr Lin and decided to check if my options were truly only what I had been offered by the first plastic surgeon. Dr Lin explained ALL of the options I had for reconstruction, even a DIEP flap reconstructive procedure that I was told by the first plastic surgeon was not possible for me prior to my mastectomies. He listened to my exact hopes for a successful outcome. He informed me of the process I would undergo in getting to my goal, even when he had to give me news he knew I would not like to hear. Having my wishes completely disregarded by the previous surgeon had me hesitant about undergoing any more surgery. There is a big difference between perfection and a do-over. The first plastic surgeon had left me facing the latter and not because i had sought the former. Ultimately my profound unhappiness with my appearance and Dr Lin’s thoughtful, compassionate and understanding approach combined with his willingness to answer any and all questions thoroughly convinced me to take the leap of faith. I underwent a DIEP flap procedure last December and I could not be happier with my decision and my good fortune in finding such a humble and skilled professional. I am pleased with my appearance now and have regained confidence. Dr Lin’s ability to relate to and care for me as a person, and not just do the job for a patient, equals his expertise in his field and in the operating room. His staff was equally kind and available for questions during the whole process. Take it from one who has seen the worst possible treatment, and go for the best first! I would recommend this extraordinary rotation. Dr. Lin is an excellent Plastic Surgeon and also very good at teaching. In the process, I have learned from basic wound care and burn management, skin flaps and grafts, to more delicate rhinoplasty, ear reconstruction, and more complex transgender surgery. I really enjoyed this learning experience with him.
